About Us

The Sacramento Blues Society was founded in 1979 and is one of the oldest blues societies in California. The SBS has kept the blues tradition alive in the Sacramento area by promoting the local blues music scene, bringing international renowned artists to the region, and is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation. We provide educational opportunities for young people with our "Blues In The Schools" program. SBS also maintains a fund to provide assistance to those member musicians who find themselves in a financial crisis.  Honor is paid to those who have come before through the Hall of Fame. Please check out each program and see what there is for you in the Sacramento Blues Society.

Upcoming Elections for the 2016 Board of Directors

We are currently accepting nominations for the 2016 SBS Board of Directors. Board members must be current SBS members wishing to help with our mission to preserve and promote American Blues Music. We do this through an assortment of ways: the Gene Chambers Musicians Crisis Fund which assists member musicians in emergencies, the Hall Of Fame which recognizes individuals that strengthened our blues community, the annual contest to send a representative to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Competition, a Blues In The Schools program that presents programs in schools and after-school programs, and by co-sponsoring and supporting various shows and venues in the community. The Board of Directors works together to manage these activities and is responsible for the growth and protection of funding sources and assuring SBS is in compliance with rules and regulations of operating a legal 501(c)(3) non-profit entity in the state of California.

There are six Board positions to be filled, five of those will be 2-year terms, and the other will be a one year term. Each year, one-half of the members of the Board are up for election. This system assures that at least one-half of the Board members have experience and can assist new Board members fulfill their corporate duties.

Are you interested in keeping the blues alive in the Sacramento area? Or do you know someone that would be interested in assisting with this mission?
